New Coach Requirements - Concussion Training and Lindsay's Law:
All coaches (head and assistant) are required to take a 30 minute concussion training course, print out the certificate, and give it to the AAB. These will be filed in the parish office. This training will need to be renewed every 3 years per Ohio's Return to Play State Law. Please take the time to go click on NFHS Concussion Training on the left hand side of the home page. At that page, you can scroll down just a bit and see the free Concussion in Sports box to click and start your training. The CDC Concussion Training is also listed on the SI Play website as an alternative. Concussion training must be completed before practices start.
Concerning Lindsay's Law, the State of Ohio is also requiring that all coaches, parents, and children go on-line and watch a video about the nature and warning signs of sudden cardiac arrest, read a handout, and then print the signature form. Parent/guardians and their children need to sign this form and turn it into their coaches within the first 2 weeks of practice. Team members will not be able to participate in any CYO games if this form is not returned, so please work with your families to stress the importance of them completing this training.
VIRTUS Training/Child Protection
At Ascension, we take the protection of our young people very seriously. All coaches and volunteers must attend a VIRTUS Child Protection Awareness Session and undergo an Archdiocesan background check before working with young people. For more information about the Child Protection requirements of Ascension and the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, please visit our VIRTUS/Child Protection webpage.
